Prague Food Tours
In this post I'm looking at Prague food tour options where the emphasis is on the food,it's history, how it fits into the culture and how it's constructed.Great conversation is fine but you're paying for a food tour. The current leaders in this market are Taste of Prague and Eating Prague Tours (now under the brand EatingEurope) but there are several different options on the market, some established, others more recent.WARNING: Make sure you inform them about any allergies or intolerances way ahead of time.Expect a food tour to be between 3 and 5 hours over multiple venues or less in a single venue.Come rain or shine, winter or summer, here are the ones I recommend with different options in different areas.
As mentioned above,Eating Prague Tours was one of the original Prague food tour offers and even though they've rebranded they still offer the same high quality food experience.7 tastings over a period of 4 hours concentrating mostly in the Old Town and New Town. This has been on my recommended list for at least 4 years now so read about them on theEating Prague Food Tour.
Essor – Lesser Town
Essor can be found in many cities but it is a fairly recent addition to the city and they've gone straight for a Prague food tour in the Lesser Town.Lovely little stroll through one of the most picturesque areas of the city.8 tastings and 4 beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) over 6 stops and I'm not giving away the"secret"course.Read about them on theLesser Town Prague Food Tour.
For any Vegetarians out there here's a Prague food tour just for you.Enjoy 4 hours of specialist Vegetarian food tasting equivalent to a 7-course degustation menu with beverages and along the way learn something of the city.Total route distance is around 5Km (starting in the Lesser Town, finishing in the New Town).Read more on thePrague Vegetarian Food Tour.
Karlin – Small Group
I like this Prague food tour for two main reasons. The first is that it guarantees a small group of no more than 8 (at the time of writing).Secondly it's away from the Old Town and spends most of it's time in Prague 8 (Karlin – my old working haunt,3 tram stops from Republic Square). It's a 4.5 hour tour and along the way expect to try 8 different tastings and 5 beverages. If you happen to visit a"Lokal"restaurant ask them about"Buying a lunch for the homeless".Check out theUrban Adventure Food Tour (Karlin).
Karlin – Private
Several food tour companies have begun from having a passion about the product. That's definitely the case here as Lenka takes you on a 3 hour Prague food tour of the Karlin area for 7 tastings and 3 beverages.Starters, main courses and desserts.Vegetarian options available. One of the shortest Prague food tours at less than 2km.Check out thePrivate Food Tour with Lenka.
Private Residence (Balkan/Czech food)
This is not a tour as such,it's actually a private 4 course meal prepared and served at somebody's home in Prague.Bring your own alcohol if you want (your hosts are non-drinkers so you'll get non-alcoholic beverage).Interesting conversation and your chance to experience Prague as a local.Vegetarian option as well.Take a look at the
Private Balkan/Czech Experience.
